Abstract

Introduction: The satisfaction and performance of nurses contribute to the quality of health care in hospitals. The leadership behaviors that can be used to improve performance and satisfaction is leadership behavior based on Path-Goal theory. The purpose of this study was to clarify the effect of the application of leadership behavior module based on Path-Goal theory to satisfaction and the performance of nurse Methode: This study used quasy experiment with pre -post test design. The population in the study were all nurse unit managers and all nurses in Rumah Sakit Muhammadiyah Gresik and Rumah Sakit Muhammadiyah Sekapuk Ujung Pangkah Gresik. Samples were selected by random sampling proportional. Samples 2 nurse unit manager and 12 nurses both the treatment group and the control group. The independent variable: the application of leadership behavior based on Path-Goal Theory. Dependent variables: satisfaction and performance of nurses. Data were collected by questionnaires and observation, and analyzed by Independent T-Test and Paired t-test with significance level α ≤ 0.05 Results and Analysis: The results showed there were differences in nurse’s job satisfaction before and after implementation of leadership behavior’s base on Path-Goal theory (p<0.001), there were differences in nurse’s performance before and after implementation of leadership behavior’s base on Path-Goal theory (p<0.001), nurse unit manager’s leadership behavioral base on Path-Goal theory improve nurse satisfaction (p<0.001) and nurse unit manager’s leadership behavioral base on Path-Goal theory improve the performance of nurses (p<0.001). Discussion and conclusion: The nurse unit manager’s leadership behavioral base on Path-Goal theory can improve nurse’s satisfaction and performance, so that by applying leadership behavior according to the characteristics of subordinates will provide psychological comfort to subordinates.
