Abstract

Nurse performance appraisal system in the ‘Aisyiyah Bojonegoro Hospital didn’t show the interaction between nurses and clients but only focus on the nurse’s activities. The content of nurse performance appraisal is applied in 'Aisyiyah Hospital Bojonegoro didn’t contain elements of caring. This study used operational research. This research was conducted in three stages: 1) problem identification of nursing performance appraisal system; 2) arrangement nursing performance appraisal instrument based on caring; and 3) evaluation nursing performance appraisal instrument based on caring. This research subject were in this study were 15 participants from Head of Nursing field, head of PSDI, head of adult inpatient 1 and 2, NUM and nurse associate from Musdalifah, Bir Ali 1, Arofah 1, Arofah 2, and Arofah 3 wards . Data were analyzed qualitative by FGD. This study resulted a nurse performance appraisal system based on caring that consists of the instrument, workflow and Standart Operational Procedure. The nursing performance appraisal instrument based on caring consist of 13 nurse associate performance goal items and 10 behavior performance items based on 5 caring dimensions by Kristen Swanson (maintaining belief, knowing, being with, doing for and enabling). Maintaining belief dimension were applied in communication and optimism assessment items; knowing were applied in description of nurse’s duties and cooperation; being with were implemented in coordination, responsiveness and discipline assessment items; doing for werw applied in the description of duties and ethics; enabling dimension were applied in motivation and innovative assessment items. This study recommends to the ‘Aisyiyah Bojonegoro hospital direction and managerial to apply a nurse performance appraisal system based on caring regularly and systematically to improve and enhance the quality of nursing care.
