Abstract

Introduction: Malnutrition is most often suffered by children’s. One of the causes of malnutrition in children is mother's knowledge and attitudes about nutrition and maternal behavior in feeding. One treatment of malnutrition by improving knowledge, attitudes and actions through the mother's nutritional counseling program. This study aims to identify the effect of counseling on knowledge, attitudes and actions in meeting the nutritional needs of the mother for the child malnutrition. Method :This study is quasi experimental with pre-posttest design. The data was collected using 4 pieces of questionnaires. Subjects were divided into 2 groups, that selected by simple random sampling technique. Counseling is done as much as 3 sessions with pre and post-test. Result : The results Wilcoxon test showed that with increased knowledge (p=0.000), attitude (p=0.000) and action (p=0.000) in the intervention group. Furthermore, Mann-Whitney test showed there are differences in knowledge (p=0.000), attitude (p=0.000) and the action (p=0.000) between the intervention group and the control group. Conclusion: The conclusions of this study are significantly influence counseling on knowledge, attitudes and actions in meeting the nutritional needs of the mother for the child malnutrition.
